Default Broken Wing Mirror - repair or replace?

I found my passenger side mirror assembly hanging by the power adjusting wire the other day. The pedestal portion was still attached to the door, but the entire mirror housing was hanging down the side of the car. I taped the mirror back in place with gaffers tape, and can drive with it that way. Bit how is the mirror housing attached to the pedestal? Glued? I saw no bolts or other mechanical attachments. Can it be repaired or does the entire assembly (pedestal and housing together) need to be replaced?.

Default Solution

A repair shop told me it needed to be replaced - not repaired. The dealer told me the same.

I tried to buy a new one from the local dealer and was told it is on back-order, with a possible availability date of "never."

Got a nice used one with low miles (owner was outfitting car for track and replaced originals with light weight, low-drag mirrors). Now I have a yellow mirror on a red S2000 ;-)

Why didn't you have it painted before putting it on the car?
