so last week some chick was on the phone and ran into my parked s2k. i was parked on a downhill and my wheels were turned to the curb so they were sticking out a bit from the fender. so she hit the front wheel and broke my upper control arm, headlight, headlight bracket, air pump, healight bracket, abs sensor, ball joints, sway bar end link. my wheel is broken and the bumper got some scratches. anyway, she was driving a hertz rental car and theyre taking care of the claim. two days ago an "independant" adjuster came to look at my car. today i called hertz and they said that the adjuster estimated a total of 3300 in repairs including labor. i know how to do all the work myself and i estimated 2700 in just parts. my question is how i should go about getting more money. the adjuster could not see any major damage because the wheel was in the way and the body didnt receive much damage because the wheel received all the impact... please help.

 

Sorry to hear about your s. I had a similar incident were I had my car parked and I watched a truck back up into my door. Then the guy was about to take off and I ran out and stopped him before he split. I would take the car to a trusted repair shop and let them do an estimate. There might be more damage that cant be seen from the outside. Hope everything works out alright for u.

 

I don't understand the question. You take your car to a body shop and they fix it. Hertz pays the bill. They may or may not use preowned parts to make the repairs as your car is ~5 years old. If their initial estimate is low, it doesn't matter. They're still obligated to pay for the remainder of the bill. It's fairly common for the initial estimate to be low as the shop often finds additional damage once the repair is underway. Also keep in mind that sometimes shops / insurance companies can get parts at wholesale prices.

 

I think what he wants is to do the work himself to get some cash out of the deal. But he knows that estimate is low, so how does he get a greater estimate to pocket more cash.

 

exactly what bradskee said. i know how to do the repairs myself. i do body work for my self and friends as a hobby. i just want to know how i should go about it so i can pocket more cash. should i take it to a body shop and get a fair estimate and send it to hertz? the adjuster that came out did not let me jack up the car so he could see the damage and thats why i think he got a low estimate.

 

i think you need to go get a few estimates then come at him with them,....then when you prove it costs more,...tell them you want to take a cash payout,.......they might not even offer it though.....????

Like some have stated, get a quote from a different body shop. I've done it before, and it works.

 

thanks for the input guys. im gonna try to get at least 3 estimates from different reputable body shops and ill see how it goes...
