Default Rear bumper - replace or repair

Hey guys,

Looking to see what options I have and what people have done in similar situations.

So I have 2 S2000s, an 08 CR BB and 05 SSM, both parked and got swiped overnight. Whoever did that was very special and likely drunk to hit both. Insurance would be $1000 deductible on EACH car.

The CR got the worst damage. I know a body shop that does wonders and restored it after a tree fell on it a few years ago. Insurance also paid everything with no problem. Anyways, I want to keep the VIN number as much as possible. It's almost as if someone was telling me I shouldn't have the CR after these random incidences.

The 05 I can live with since the bumper was already bent in and uneven before the hit.

Does anyone have an idea of pricing and/or repairability of these cracks?

Thanks all.

Those damages are very minor and are easily repairable. The problem is, replacement plastic bumpers are far cheaper than the labor costs to repair them on most of the cases, so people just replace them out of convenience.

Since you want to preserve the VIN tag on the CR rear bumper, it would be worthwhile to have it repaired. Fortunately there is a sharp line just next to the VIN tag on the rear bumpers for body shops to mask off during the paint work to make the repaint be essentially unnoticeable.

As to the process of repairing, I noticed an open gouge which will need to be reinforced from the back side with a mesh. The rest is simply sanding away the chipped paint and roughing the surface for flexible body filler followed by final sanding/shaping. Best of luck.

I'd be going looking for that ahole. No cameras around that may show something? Be careful with too many insurance claims, you'll pay for it in the end!

Don't know if it's an option you want to consider (especially if you live in an apartment), but you could always replace the bumper on the CR with a new one and have it painted black, then just store the original bumper instead of spending extra money trying to repair it. If you have a place to store the original CR bumper with the original VIN sticker, you could then have it available if the missing VIN sticker ever comes into question as far as value goes, or if you sell the car.

It's time to move to a more secure location with a 2 car garage.

The body shop said it was done and needed replacement, they do great work and have gone to them in the past. Eventually the reinforcement in the back would fail according to them. I already have the replacement bumper, $370 from the dealer and the shop says it's $300 to paint.

I'm leaning towards this path because if I ever track the car, might as well use the damaged one at that point. Or just leave it on because I'll probably get hit somewhere else knowing my luck

I appreciate the feedback.
