Most paint codes have variants, a redder flop or greener flop, blue and so on. Must like hues within colors.
I didn't realize this until I was ordering touch up paint from paintscratch.com and they asked for the 11th digit of your vin like you mentioned.

Maybe that is why touch up paint from the dealer is always off.

Three stages actually. A base coat, a pearl coat and then a clear coat.

Correct but misleading:

Factory paint process.....

1) Pretreat and electrodeposition
Pre treat is a chemical degreaser and water clean followed by a zinc phosphate dip. Body is then cleaned and placed in an electrolytic bath of soluble primer (Cataionic Electrodeposition). This step provides a corrosion inhibiting layer. A chipping primer is then applied to chip prone areas.
2) Intermediate Coat
The intermediate coat is applied to further prevent damage
3) Top Coat Application
Enamel paint and either polyester or acrylic resin paint is applied for higher solidarity, smoothness, brightness, and weather resistance.
* Solid enamel + Clear Coat
*Metallic enamel + Clear Coat
*Pearl enamel + Clear Coat

I had always assumed my S2000 was NFR, but today I saw this:

...and I'm confused?

Is your S a U.S. spec. car? What year Ap1/Ap2? Check the factory decal placed on the drivers side door jam for the correct specifics.

You are correct I didn't include the multistage bare metal immersion coatings applied at the factory.

... but if you were referring to Bermuda Blue, that one is Pearl.

After someone shared the universal Service Manual PDF, I went through all of the paint codes and built a grid using a spreadsheet app.
The column headings for the year model have a C in front for Canada.
Unfortunately, this Service Manual only covers US and CA, so none of the international paint codes are listed.
