Default Coilover install - question...

Hey Guys,

Doing my first coil install on my new S and have a question. I removed the front strut/shock, and attached the new one to the top mount. Since the new coil is shorter than the stock suspension there is a gap between the bottom mount and the lower a-arm, but when I try to move the lower a-arm up to meet it, it gives me a ton of resistance and won't go up. I've determined the resistance is from the swaybar, if I remove the swaybar I can move the lower a-arm up and meet the shock lower mount point, but then I can't re-attach the swaybar...so I'm not sure what the problem is..any thoughts? Pic attached.

It makes it easier if you remove the oem damper from both sides.

When you say OEM Damper do you mean the whole stock spring/strut piece which I'm replacing, sorry I don't have all my terms straight yet. When I was trying to install I had only removed the driver's side, you're saying remove from both driver's and passenger side before installing the new one?

you can take both fronts off to relieve pressure, or just disconnect the sway bar.

Disconnect the stabilizer on both sides, install the coilovers, and then reconnect the stabilizer bar.

Ok - thanks everyone, I will try disconnecting on both sides before trying to install and see if that works.

Thanks everyone for the suggestion, once i removed both sides I was able to adjust the sway bar fairly easily.

One more question - is there any way to adjust the ride height without taking the coils all the way off the car? The coils are tein monoflex's, and since I have to rotate the entire bottom of the strut to change the height, wouldnt i have to remove it entirely from the car to adjust it? Coils i've had in the past on other cars havent needed to be removed to be adjusted so I'm not sure if I'm missing something.

You really should have done more research before attempting this. It's fairly simple once you have all information.

To adjust the height leave the damper on the car loosen the bottom perch then turn the whole damper to the left or right using the top two perches.

If you say so. I bought the coils used and they didn't come with instructions. I searched online and Tein does not post their product manuals online. I also read just about every coilover DIY on the site and not one mentioned needing to have both sides off in order to adjust the sway bar.

If you don't like the fact that I'm asking questions about coilover install in the suspension section of the forum then don't respond to the thread.
