Coilovers
Hey everyone,
Picked up an s2k over the weekend and it currently sits on some Tein springs. I had Tein springs on the RSX and they were okay, but it needs coilovers IMO. I have Megan street series on my Genesis and they've been nothing but good so far (10,000km + one track day). I bought the s2k for more of a track oriented car. I don't want to break the bank on coils either, but I don't want to cheap out either. I'm thinking of maybe going forward with the Megan Track Series coils, but I do see a lot of people hating on Megan. I would love the KW, but they're just to pricey. There is the Konig Yellow struts which is also an option if I can slip on the Tein springs? Not sure if that setup works.
So basically right now I'm debating between the Megan Track Series & the Konig Yellows w/Tein Springs?
What are your thoughts? I've eliminated a few other options based off of reviews I've read here & different threads.
Thanks for the help!

i've got the megan track series with 12k springs all around. i track my car pretty regularly and just wanted something to get me started. never had megan's before but after 10k miles and 6 track days they've held up just fine. the adjustability is good, performance is consistent, they are lighter than stock suspension, and as you know they are affordable! for DD and occasional track they are great. but a serious track coilover they are not. i could definitely stand for a little more stiffness and responsiveness at the track. guess it depends on how serious a track car you intend to have.
Depends are you budget, there are plenty of decent coilovers on the market especially for entry-level tracking (not sure of your track experience). I've had my tein flex coils for a few years now and just started tracking them. Not as responsive as I'd like but I plan to upgrade soon anyway...not sure which brand yet.
btw, what tires and brake pad/fluid are you running? From my experience I would take care of those first before upgrading my suspension.

Probably be tracking about 6-10x a year at Calabogie. I just got an email back from a local shop that advised against the Konig + Tein springs, so I think the Megan Track series could be a good start.
As for tires, I'll either get a hard compound tire or slicks, not sure yet. Also brakes, I plan to just change the rotors for sloted or drilled + some high performance brake pads. I think that should do the trick?

sounds good! yeah, they are cheap enough that you can sell them at some point if you want to upgrade and not lose much on the deal.
i also agree that tires/brakes are the number one most important thing on the track. slicks are serious business if you want to go that route. otherwise a set of star spec, RS-3, NT05, etc. will do a great job. as for brakes i'd start with high temp pads and dot 4 fluid. after that stainless steel lines and fancy rotors last.

yeah, it's not a great idea to drive to the track with slicks(unless it happens to be three blocks away!). so you need to be prepared with an extra set of wheels and change out the slicks at the track. and obviously they are only good in totally dry conditions.
Tires will have to wait for now.
Ordered:
Megan track series coilovers
Megan strut bar and x frame
High performance pads with drilled and slotted rotors for the front + the blue brake fluid!
