How low to go?
Hi all,
Newbie here, just traded my Audi TT in for an S2000.
I spent a fortune modifying the TT, and promised myself not to spend a penny doing mods on the S2000, yet here I am, it's starting already
Just wondering how low to go with Springs. Just want to get rid of the daft OEM ride height.
My wheels are 18inch
will a one inch drop be enough?
thanks

1" will be good. I am only lowered 0.8" on Tanabe GF210 springs and I think its prefect for me. I daily drive mine and have massive speed bumps, I scrape occasionally but its just right. Any lower and I wouldnt even be able to get in/out of my driveway. It did still get rid of alot of the wheel gap, and it still rides smooth so i'm happy.
I was lowered 1" on eibach springs with 18" volks before switching to coil overs. IMO 1" wasnt enough, didnt look right. Save up and go with coilovers if your looking to lower the car for looks and improved handling.
guys, cheers for the advice and cheers suzuka-blue for the picture, that was really helpful.
I am in a position where I can afford springs, or coilovers.
I had springs with OEM shocks on my TT,and the ride felt firm, not too bumpy though. I have a VW corrado as well, and this is lowered on coilovers, the ride is horrible, you feel every bump and hump.
If I went with coilovers on the S2000, would the ride be horrible? I'm leaning towards springs with OEM shocks due to experiences above

Coilovers will be stiffer due to the spring rates and matched dampers than a stock shock with oem or aftermarket spring will be. I have apexi n1 exv 32way damper adjustments and you can make it ride softer feeling than stock though or all the way up to extremely stiff. To me though i can live with the extra bumps, i think body roll is way more uncomfortable and coilovers will get rid of a lot of chassis roll in the turns.
now on the contrary, what are you uses of the car? autox? track days? or just aggressive driving? or the lesser just show?
i have koni adjustable shocks on the lower perch, and tein S techs. i have a MY00 and the spring rate was not much more than OEM and i did not want to sacrifice the ride quality myself being that the car is a DD.
i live near good roads and not many speed bumps so i can have a pretty low DD.
my S techs drop about 1 inch. some noticed the settled drop to be more of 1.25, and my adjustable shocks are on the lower perch setting so that drops about .5 inches on top...
the strange thing is, my car rides better now than it did stock. however, your philosophy of use is so exponentially important to what you want to do...for example, if you autoX with the adjustable koni yellow shocks, you will need to get them revalved, but if you want aggressive driving or looks, that wont be necessary. many people like coilovers because you can adjust the ride height, and true, it is about finding that perfect height, when you adjust the height you will need an alignment each time. not too big of an issue if you go somewhere that offers a lifetime alignment. but nonetheless, the adjustability is a selling point for coilovers and many people find themselves at the same height constantly. if you do go coilovers, dont skimp and get some good ones, but like i mentioned, your style of usage is more important to what you are going to buy. the extra money might not be needed if you can get a good drop with a good set up that is not overkill.
here is my car.
