Hey guys I just ordered coilovers and they will be here next week. How do i preload the suspension? Is there anything else I should know when installing new coilovers? Thanks.

just turn the locking collars into the spring so they are nice and snug so there is no up and down play in them....a few turns is all you need

What coils did you order? They should come with their own specific directions for preload settings.

Or were you refering to preloading the suspension prior to torquing all your bolts? There are numerous DIY's on here in the under the hood section for installing springs/coilovers. To pre-load the suspension, you just use a floor jack and lift the wheel hub until that corner comes up off the jack stand a little bit before you tighten everything down. For me, the hardest part of the install was aligning the rears to put that lower bolt in. But I was also doing it by myself with no help.

Thats a PIA I have a trick for that well its not 100% but it helps -
Stick a jackhandle in the a-arm and hook a leg over / sit on it while you wrestle the shock in

Or you can have someone stand on top of the brake rotor while you wiggle the coil in.

As far as preloading the "suspension" and not the coilvers, you would leave all mounting bolts loose (lower control arm bolt, bolts on top of the top hat) jack up the car until it comes off the jackstand, then tighten bolts accordingly and to spec.

Wished I'd thought of using a jack handle! I was using my longest prybar in a similar fashion but it was just a little bit too short to give me the leverage I really needed...or I need to gain a few pounds.

Another way to bring the hub assembly down is to use the jack that came with the car. Stick a block of wood on the top, and a block of wood underneath. Position the top block so it is touching the top of the wheel well, and the top block touching the top of the hub assembly/brake rotor/a-arm (whatever you find easiest). Then crank the jack to push down on the assembly, slip your bolt in, and bob's your uncle!
