Default suspension

i have just recently just purchased a 2001 s2k and would like to do suspension and wheels first.
having a little bit of trouble deciding weather to get coil overs or just get springs and shocks.
if any one has any suggestions about this please post.

thank you,

springs and struts if money is tight,
or coils if you have money to spare

Don't fix what 'ain't broke. Unless you have something specific you want to see change in how the car drives I would say just go with some new tires and maybe pick a 17 inch wheel to update the look a bit. Congrats on the purchase.

If you got the money then coilovers are the way to go as you can set your ride height and have the car corner balanced. The MY 01 tends to oversteer a bit so you may take that into account when doing any suspension modifications.

"Best", is a matter of opinion. With that being said, coilovers would be the only way I'd go.

I think you need to start with the question, what do you want from your suspension.

Definitely start with what are you doing with it... track only, autoX, DD, weekend warrior.

I have KW clubsports.. I DD my car in spring, summer, fall in Baltimore MD. Ride is good, and great when i weekend warrior it. Its a large opinion based thing though. too stiff for someone may be okay for other people.. but its 100% (or maybe 90%) based on what you do with the car... some budget and other add-ons may play a factor though.

If you just purchased your S, I would leave it stock. I kept my car stock for about 2 years. The S is pretty great in stock form. After tracking my car I decided to upgrade the suspension. Again like many have pointed out it all depends what you want. If you just want a drop and are on the budget there are several lowering springs out there. If you want to slam your car there are many reasonably priced coilovers. If you want to auto-x or track there are several higher end coilovers out there. I suggest you go to a local S meet and ask someone with upgraded suspension for a ride. I'm on Megan Tracks and I like them. They are a good entry level coilover.

I started, unfortunately on megan track series(not unfortunately because they are megans, but because I bought the car with them on, but had the stocks included in the purchase) I eventually switched to stocks because I blew one of my megans and didn't want to pay to get it rebuilt... plus Megan was pretty bad with their customer service 3 years ago... I then realized that I wanted something more than stock, but a little more high quality than Megans (I loved the Megans until I road in a car with KW V3's) I got a GREAT price on my clubsports so I went with them when I had to replace my rear subframe.

Bumpsteer kit and leave it alone since you don't know what the car is capable of right now.

Just get some Swift Sports or Spec-R springs and be done with it. Use AP2 wheels and spacer them out. The car should be good enough for anything you want to do.
