The top knob is for adjusting the damping settings on each coilover which are represented by the amount of "clicks" are turned from full stiff (full clockwise). The middle two rings (used to lock against each other) are for adjusting the spring pre-load. The very bottom ring that locks against the bottom of the shock is used to adjust the vehicles ride height. Everything can be found on the tein website. http://www.tein.com/products/features.html#FullLength . When I installed mine I preloaded the suspension but I don't know if it is required. Hope this helps.
