Default $@#$#$% Help?

Hey, I've got an issue I can't seem to get resolved.

Mono Amp. DVC 4 ohm each side. Wired pos from amp to pos on both sides of the sub. Neg amp terminal to neg terminals on sub. Amp is clipping and going into protect mode. Tried swapping out wires to make sure there was not short and same issue! Any suggestions???

Thanks!

Need more info.... What amp, what sub (devil is in the details)

Some amps (JL, RF, etc..) tend to not like certain loads when the supply voltage is not there. Are you running off the batteries or is the car running?

Also - some DVC subs can present an unusually low impedance when they are new and wired in parallel (just something I have noted - no specific data to back it up). Run them at a lower gain/power until they break in a little.

Amp: Infinity 1211A (2 ohm stable)

Sub: Audiobahn AW1206T DVC 4 ohm. Ran car on and off. Same issue. Ran multimeter ohm load test. Shows 3.3 ohms per Voice Coil. Also have 2.4 Farad capacitor. Ran direct to battery and bypassed it. Ran car on/off again. Still no-go. Maybe I need more break-in time? Manual doesn't state that it will cause an amp to go into protect mode w/o breaking it in first? I'm Pee-I-isssed right now! Over $1,500 laying in the trunk of my car inoperable!

Thanks for responding so fast, though!

One more thing. When checking ohm-load w/ coils wired together, get a reading of 3 ohms.

Looks like the amp sub combo is compatible - perhaps an insufficient ground or power lead?

Could be a bad amp also - might have gotten a lemon.

Not really familiar with Infinity amps.

Sounds like a grounding problem. What size wiring are you using?

4 guage all around.

Everything lights up, comes on ok. Appears like it's ready to roll. But when I apply some volume at the deck, the protect circuit kicks in after the amp's clip light falshes a couple of times.

Sounds like you are clipping the signal. What is the signal output on your HU? You want to match the "signal input" level on the amp to match that of the HU. Cant just crank it up (in case that is waht you did). Did you tune the amp?

Check in the FAQ about the steps needed to tune the amplifier.

The fact that it turns on OK, and then clips when you add volume points to the tuning of the amp.

Could still be a bad ground or pwr connection.

Where is your amp grounded to?
