Default 12" sub...

Any boxes out specifically made for a 12" sub that'll sit in the middle of our trunk? I've got an Eclipse aluminum cone and was thinkin I could mount my amps in where the spare tire used to be. Any ideas fellas? Also, anybody have the Focal 165 K2's? Any input or installation tips?

dre107:

I just had 165 K2's installed and am very happy with them. However, I would not be the expert audiophile to ask b/c I did not listen to any other speakers. I simply trusted the advice of numerous S2000 owners who have the 165 K2's and went with them.

The amp is put in the area where the spare tire use to be. If I get any flat tires, I will just call the car club or my wife, whoever can get to me sooner.

I am currently getting a custom fiberglass sub enclosure made for my 13 inch Focal 33V sub

All this is pretty pricey but I think the final result will be very nice. I don't have any problems with people doing their installs themselves; I just think professional installers can get the job done better and more efficient than myself

Pictures will be posted next week when done. Stay tuned!

Louie,
Did you need anything special to mount the K2's? Or did they fit just fine?

bombrman,
Some drawings would be nice. I just hope it wont dig TOO deep into my pocket. Savin' for a turbo kit!

Here you are....they are in order of easiest to make to most difficult. As you'd guess, they are also in order of least internal volume to most.

Thanks a lot fellas. I've got the adapter rings from lucid on order. And I'm really likin' the last box pictured here. Matter of fact, I think I'll make a friendly trip to my local hardware shop. Thanks again guys.

And Louie, I'll be looking for those pics.

Yeah. The ones I showed you probably won't be big enough for some subs. So you might have to look into fiberglass

Don't expect anything more than 1.0 cu ft and 7" of mouting depth with any of the boxes I drew out.

If you're gonna put a serious sub in there, you'll definitely need a bigger box than wood will accomodate. For example, The JL 12W7, is the sweetest sounding sub I've ever heard but you're looking at a 9.5" mounting depth

dre107: Don't forget to check your local car stereo stores for sub boxes. I've seen at least 3 different 12" boxes that fit in the trunk well. They won't be as good a fit as a custom box but worth it for the $. The one I'm using cost me ~$60, it leaves an inch on both L/R sides and sticks up 1/2 inch but fits perfectly otherwise - even the carpet was a perfect match. The space was 1.2 cu.ft.

There are a lot more options for 10" subs.
