6x8's instead of the 6.5's?
I've been thinking, the higher your sd (2way xmax*cone area), the more bass you can produce. Since companies do not produce long throw 6.5" component sets, why not increase your cone area then?
In order to get most woofers to fit in our doors, we have to make a 3/4" spacer to get them to clear the window. If you then made that spacer oval and put a 6x8 woofer in there, it should be spaced away from the doors sheet metal far enough to get the basket to clear, wouldn't you think? If not, It shouldn't require much trimming with a dremel at all.
The problem is I do not know what the door panel is shaped like, so I have no idea if the edges of the speaker will hit the door panels or not.

Good question. What I can tell you for sure is that with a very good set of components in the doors and a high quality amp, you'd be surprised at the mid bass you can get. Dynamat the doors and it will be even better.
The adapters have nothing to do with the cone. They have to do with the magnet. And the simple answer, no, 6x8s will not fit in the doors. Why would you want to? Good components will destroy any 6xwhatever in sound.
The door panel will no go back on properly. Moreover, just having a bigger cone surface area does not automatically provide better bass. Im not aware of any component speakers that are oval....that are half decent anyways.

Yes, you can cover the inside of the outer skin of the door as well as covering the inside part of the inner skin of the door.
If you're talking about using dynamat on the backside of the door cover, I don't think it's a good idea.
The thickness of the dynamat will interfere with the door lock mechanism.
Thus, the door won't lock properly.
