about to do rear speaker mod. Component speakers good?
hi, im about to do the rear speaker mod on my s2k. but i was wondering if it is possible to put component speakers in the rear without running an amp? right now, im stock everything. speakers and HU. installing direction the same as just speakers? let me know guys. or tell me the one of the good speakers with best price
I wouldn't recommend it.
You want your speakers behind you to be for rear fill only. Get a decent coaxial, but I wouldn't do a component system, and I would definitely put an amp on them if you want good sound.
Otherwise, as long as you have an upgraded head unit and run efficient speakers, you can probably get by without an amp.

I would highly recommend components for rear speakers (based on personal experience).
"Rear fill" is one benefit of rear speakers, but not the only one. If that was all you wanted you could just run very cheap speakers in mono back there.
Above and beyond "rear fill", components can allow you to maintain stereo separation and grow the soundstage.
It's surprising what moving/pointing the tweeters around an inch or two can do to the sound. The challenge is to get left-channel music into your left ear from behind the driver seat while getting right-channel music into your right ear from behind the passenger seat. I taped my tweeters in about ten different places back there before deciding on a location above and slightly to the side of the mids.
When I'm in the driver seat the main sound my right ear hears is the right channel and the main sound my left ear hear is the left channel.
If you just put coaxial speakers in the rear panels where everybody else does, it makes an improvement but it doesn't work as well as components.

darkknight, are you using time correction on yours? I have the 9833 and haven't messed with time correction yet.
My rear components are amped as well, but they also served their purpose when they were running off the OEM HU. (Sound much better now...!)
