Default Added video to dash? Then I need to talk to you

I'm planning to add a touch-screen VGA monitor to the dash as I've seen in many threads here. My plan is to add a Xenarc TS 700, which is a seven inch screen. http://www.xenarc.com/product/700ts.html. (I'm not going to use the stand, I plan to embed this IN the dash).

I need to know what's under the dash, and the dimensions -- so that I can see if this monitor will fit. I know the JDM monitor is a bit over 5 inches -- and I'd hate to get this monitor home, and $700 later I find out it won't fit.

For those of you gearheads who have had the dash apart (or currently have your dash apart!) I need to know the dimensions between the main vertical support pillar on the left (which is just to the right of the driver instrument cluster), and the air bag system on the right. The installation engineer I've been talking to thinks there may be enough room, but he's not certain. I have the service manual, but it doesn't list these dimensions.

I could rip off the dash and measure, but that involves lots and lots of work on my part. Being terminally lazy, I thought I'd ask here first.

Thanks for any and all help.

Viva la 2k!!

It will fit. With the passenger ac vent tube removed there is about 8 inches or room from front to back. Draw a line straight down from the left side of the airbag lid and this is where the edge of the support is.

What about the loc of the left-hand support? What's the max width between the two supports?

(I assume you're going to put a single-DIN unit in there, most likely a new head unit with video)

mikes2k -- great shots, thanks for the link. That looks like SO much work!! You have a nav system hooked up to that? That's so trick.

Do you have any interior shots closer in than this one: http://homepage.mac.com/mikes2k/.cv/mikes2...umb_273_205.jpg ?

The monitor I'm thinking of installing is over 7 inches wide -- that might not be enough space. If I can see where the spars are behind the dash -- that'd give me a rough idea of what I can get in the dash.

Heck no -- I'd pay someone to put it in. I just want to see if it looks pimp enough to justify the cost.
