Adding tweets
Hi guys,
I bought a set of AP2 panels and im ready to install them. Because I have a MY00 the only wires in the door are to the 6.5" speakers (Are they 6.5" BTW?)I have nothing for the tweets
So im thinking of snipping the wires to the lower speakers and tieing in the tweets up top. I dont think tapping the black to the black, red to red will work.............BUT I do think this will work.
Red goes to the lower speaker terminal then i tie the neg. wire from that to the positive to the tweet. then the neg to that back to the neg wire on the harness..... heres a pic

should work in series right?

You should spend the money and buy yourself a nice set of component speakers. They will come with a 6.5" woofer, crossover, and tweeter and you will gain far superior sound quality than just tapping tweeters off the existing speakers.
If I do that then I will need a new head unit right? As much as I would love a new HU with an IPod hook up...I dont want to lose the dash controls. I know I can buy a DCI(<<<i think thats it) I dont want to be spending all the cash for everything. Going that route would be around $400-500.
I spent $200 on AP2 panels for multiple reasons...tweets, extra pockets, and color changing the inserts while keeping my OEM panels safe. If / when I go with a new HU....ill still have nice looking AP2 panels.
For now, this method should work right?

yes that would work but most if using factory tweeter that have built in cap, so wiring it in series will affect the sound of the mid also, just connect both + and - together (parrell) and you will be fine.
i also say change the speakers, you can find a set of componets for $100-$150 and you would not need to change your head unit...

Yeah you don't have to change your headunit for those speakers to work, but if you want to utilize more of their potential, I would recommend upgrading at some point (even if it is down the road).
Right, I know I can change the speakers but I want the tweets in the door panels to work too.
So something like this? Dont they make little clips you can snap on a existing wire to tap into its power?

You can solder on plugs yourself. When I had my speakers in compotent configuration, I used molex connectors so that I could unplug the tweeters if necessary.
I personally don't understand why one would go through the trouble of adapting OEM tweeters into their vehicle but to each his own.

Like you said? I never read anything about it being a temporary "Quick fix."
I suppose it's simple enough to hook them up since you already have them.
