most of the wires in an alarm are supposed to tap into OEM wires. with the exception of a few like the antenna, valet switch and light. i used to work at circuit city and fortunately worked with a group of people who took pride in their work..not always the case.

i would avoid bringing it back to have them redo it but would talk to the store manager, not the install manager.

as far as rewiring it, if you don't know what you're doing, pay somebody who does. i've installed my own alarms only because i enjoy taking my time and doing it right. if you can find somebody who can install it in your local forum, go for it. otherwise, you're going to have to buy a new one because most legitimate places won't reinstall a used alarm.

btw, soldering is always the best way to go. provides a permanent, clean, and better connection than a connector. make sure whoever does your next install does it.

Okay, I have taken some pictures and such and plan on relocating my alarm asap because I hate it. I and a freak about clean wires and such. Anyway, I cannot seem to adjust my prox sensor. I dont know if its not connected right or what but if i adjust sensativity all the way up on both (far right) even tried completely left, sometimes the alarm doesnt trigger at all. Just the warn beeps at me. even while im in the car moving around. The red light on the sensor blinks, but nothing happens sometimes. Also my shock sensor doesnt seem to do anything. I can flick it all day long.

Heres a pic of how the prox is wired into the shock sensor.. I dont know why some wires arnt connected and such... Anyway makes no sense to me.

As far as wires go and splices, is this all the wires that are supposed to be spliced and does this look okay? I plan on re doing the whole alarm, re legenthing the wires and everything. but if this parts okay, I may not touch it, jsut re-route it a bit.

And if anyone can tell me what the heck this wire is...that would be great lol

Anyways, what i plan to do is re wire all of this and relocate more importantly everything. as far as the prox goes I cannot adjust it to save my life and after i get done installing it i may take it back to bestbuy and let them know (the guy that worked on my alarm before quit, so Im sure they will not ever realize the alarm was altered. Either way it will be fine, i work there)

My question is how possible is this? I dont mind spending countless hours soldering and heat shrinking wires just as long as It comes all togehter and I dont mess anything up beyond what it is.

Any advice would be greatly Greatly appreciated. As far as taking it back its pretty much out of the question for a few months (lucky for me as an imployee i get last priority... already talked to them about it, I honestly dont want them touching my car again anyway) So any info on this DIY possibility would be great! I just got done installing my stereo, I realize its a little more complicated but hey gotta start somewhere. Anyways Thanks again

wow you got the employee discount install, dirt discount i hope. tell your GM about the install. Tell him that T-Taps/Scotch connections are NOT SOP!! I work at one and i know! If they dont budge, call your District GM. All i say is take it up the ladder, working there dosen't mean you cant get the same respect as regular customers.

ps. DO NOT TOUCH IT!! LET THEM FIX IT!! The'll probably blame you if you do and tell you it voided their install warranty!!

what is SOP?? just curious. honeslty tho dude the piece of mind of voiding the warranty of the alarm install is worth the piece of mind of not having them touch my car again. They simply do not have a clue what they are doing or respect others property at all.

stupid example I got to witness on my car first hand is they put the little plunger on my hood waay to high, so the hood would not shut properly. I noticed this when trying to shut the hood on my way out, i drop it several times from a height that normally works and is reasonable with no avail. An employee runs over that has been working on it and says yeah it always does this you gotta lift it up high and slam it real hard....and before i say no thats not right we need to fix that he lifts it above his head and slams it down as hard as he can. sure enough..it closes lol but its the kinda thing that makes me cringe and wonder what else has been going on with my car.

to be 100% honest i would rather void my warranty, ruin my $500 alarm and have piece of mind that I know exactly what happend and everything else rather than leaving it with the keys at bestbuy for 24hrs.

I have taken it back about 4 times and talked to "the best alarm installer" and he had no clue how to fix it or adjust anything time and time again.

I just went back a couple weeks ago and the supervisor said i wouldent be able to get an appointment for over a month. which gave me the idea that I shouldent bring it back either way. lol.

I dunno I mean, I would not mind if they give me a complete refund and uninstalled it while I was watching but I dont have the time to sit around all day and wait for them to hack everyone elses cars. lol. thanks for the advice

SOP = Standard Operating Procedure.... I think... Most companies have a manual or something that establishes their work quality standards, and they are usually in the company SOP manual. It gives them ground for firing someone for shotty work.

If you do not want them touching your car again take it to a real shop and let them sort it out. However, I would do what others have said and go back to the BB manager and complain.

Your top picture does not appear to be a prox sensor - looks more like the shock sensor. If it is the proximity sensor - it should be centered on the car. If it is the shock sensor it should be tie-wrapped to a thicker section of the wire-harness (not hard mounted to something rigid).

This may help you sort out some of the wires if you are still intent on digging into it yourself: http://darksidesubs.com/alarm/S2000ALARM.htm

I have installed alarms for 15 years and have never used a crimp connector - I always solder all connections (only exception being non-critical items like a valet switch or LED to make it easier to remove a panel if need be).

vampire taps are evil - crimp connectors are not far behind, always solder when possible.

hahahahaha wtf... they use quick connectors to install alarms? that's so retarded... i knew there was a reason why i never let them install my alarm even when i worked there so long ago. All my alarms have been done by a reputable business in houston and the solder and heat shrink everything. My old viper 591xv was done amazingly well.
