well after my brothers car got stolen last week i figured it was time to protect my baby. i went out and bought the viper 791xv. im going to have my friend who does alarm installs help me do it but just wanted to know if there are any tricks you guys have found out or places to look for ignition wires that may be hidden etc. this model has remote start, im not sure if i will integrate it or not as i like to always leave my car in gear, but does anybody use this feature?

 

Figured i'd give you some help with DEI products... Ok first off decent selection on alarm , but stay away from the remote start it'll just give you trouble in the long run, although it does have a turbo timer if you choose to go FI later. Now make sure you get allll your tiggers , both doors , trunk and hood. Secondly I highly recomment getting both a glass break sensor and a proximity sensor. Now the glass break sensor of course is going to set off if someone busts your glass. With the proximity sensor if someone walks up to your car it will give a warning , if they stay in the "zone" (you can set the distance for this) it will go off. Now this is helpfull because someone could just cut your top without opening or a door , or breaking glass :-) Key places to mount everything. The brain it's self mounting under the collum of course , everyone says different places but honestly if someone knows how to dissarm an alarm manually they'll do it no matter wher ethe alarm brain is. Secondly find a place for the LED that lets them know somethings in there , ie center consol next to shifter. Next glass break sensor mount next to the dome lights if you can , other wise on the passangerside underpanels. Now if you go with the prox sensor mount that under the cup holder , yes under the cupholder. It's to be int he center of the car so it can have a circle zone. You can also get moduals to auto roll up and down windows , pop trunk , open and close top , ect... but that's more indepth than this. If you really are scared of your car ever getting stolen get a Low-jack to add on to that.

Honestly your going to laugh but just go to circuit city , they have DEI products that will work with your application. And they can install too if your not to sure of it...

 

I wouldn't go to circuit city, the main thing you want with an alarm is a good installer..ask around your local forum for any recommedations on a installer.

 

i have a professional doing it monday, not worried about that, just want to make sure i have everything for him to do the install

FYI range on remote has sooo many variables. Do you have a tint strip , is the antena mounted at the bottom or the top , is it RF or FM, how strong the batteries are , anything obstructing the car , car facing, what command your attempting to send to the car, hieght level of the transmitter. So alway give or take 50 feet.
