Default Alarm System...

I have a Viper 671xv alarm on my car and the battery in my only remote died. When I replaced the battery, the remote lights up so I know the battery is good, but now the remote doesn't lock/unlock the doors or arm/disarm the alarm. Anyone have experience with this? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

might need to reprogram the remote to the alarm brain. Bring it back to your installer and have them take care of that.

I think you can do this from the remote.. pull out your alarm users manual and check..

I'm takin' it to the pros, the manual only says to replace the battery and everything should work, but it doesn't. Oh, and the remote retails for over $100.00 so I'll stick with one since I'm the only one who drives my car regularly. (Its a pager remote).

Let me ask you this...when you hit the l or ul button, does the keypad itself do a couple series of beeps after a few seconds?

If so your problem is alot more serious than programming.

If you answered yes to the above question it is most likely a broken solder joint where the 3 prong plug that mates the daughter board to the motherboard resides.

Those keypads are very fragile and must NOT be tossed around like a normal keypad...it must be treated as a cell phone or something similar. I wouldnt even keep that keypad on a keychain.

Its a relatively easy fix...just have to have a pretty small soldering tip for a soldering gun and it can be fixed.

Again, if you hit any button and nothing happens except for a series of beeps from the keypad itself a few seconds later it is a broken solder joint inside the keypad.

Take the keypad apart, remove the battery and remove the daughter board from the motherboard, just gently pull straight up. The motherboard has a 5 prong and a 3 prong plug that the daughterboard plugs into. See if you can slightly wiggle the 3 prong...usually one corner of it has broken loose where it is soldered to the circuit board.

If you dont have any soldering guns you can buy one from radioshack for less than 10 bucks and fix it yourself.

if the keypad is not beeping I dont know what the problem is.

Is this a 2way alarm? If it is, then you may have to change the battery within range of the system. If you did not do it within range of the brain, then it may need to be reprogrammed. If I put in the battery out of confirmation range of the brain, then I have to put the alarm into programming mode, take the battery back out, put it back in and push the button so that the brain accepts it. This is how my 2 way alarm works.

Hope this helps.

No, DEI systems dont work that way...he can change the battery anywhere.

He can try programming it though, just to see. All you need is access to the valet switch...bitwriter would be nice, but Im sure he doesnt have one of them.

Key on, press and release valet switch 8 times and hold it pressed in on the ninth and continue to hold it pressed in for the duration of the program. Siren should chirp 8 times. Press lock button of keypad and you should hear one single chirp. Release valet switch Turn key off and you should hear a series or chirps letting you know you've exited programming mode.

That is of course its out of program. If you go to press the lock button on the keypad and you dont get the chirp, but rather the series of beeps from the keypad itself, the original problem with the broken solder joint is the problem. Im 99.9% sure of it.

The remote doesn't beep when I push it, it just lites up green. It used to lite up red when arming/disarming the system then beeb to confirm, but not after I changed the battery (out of range). That may be the problem. Also, when I had the alarm installed, I wasn't told where the valet switch was . I'll take it in Sunday morning.

You do have the LCD screen keypad right? With the picture of the car on the screen?

or

do you have the 4 button with the 4 button-like led's?

My bad...the 671 should have the non lcd screen keypad, which is better btw...it can take more abuse.

Definitely try the reprogramming first, but it def. does not have to be in any kind of range when changing batteries.

If it wont program, have the installer take the keypad apart and look for any internal damage.

If its been less than 90 days they'll swap it out with a new one if all else fails.
