Alarm system options
yeah, lojack does charge extra for the mobile alert option. i got mobile guardian which includes that feature in the base price.
some higher end alarm alarm systems do have programmable tones, but then you'd have to pay big money do replace your whole setup

Yes, a proximity sensor is a matter of taste, but I think it's required for a rag top.
A dual-zone is best, one that would NEVER alarm when anyone is standing outside the car, but perhaps chirp softly and blink the light faster. The inner zone requires someone actually reaching in the passenger compartment and sound the alarm.
Non dual-zone is junk, and annoys the hell out of people. A good example of one is the old Viper that used to scream "PROTECTED BY VIPER! STAND BACK!!!" when all you did was park next to one in a parking lot. Then it's alarm blares before you have a chance to move away. Lots of kicked-in door panels with that one.
And yes, Alpine has a wonderful alarm tone. The Alpine SEC 150R was a great alarm too - perfect for our cars. Shame they don't make them anymore.
Woah, I just remembered: I have a couple of Alpine sirens around here somewhere.

Interested in selling them for cheap? Right now I just use my horn, but I can't use it during the warning phase, so I just have blinking lights.
It's quite a nice, no-frills alarm.
