Thumbs up Alpine '06 deck and DCI

Has anyone had any luck with the Alpine IR DCI and one of the new Alpine decks?

I just got my 9852 with iPod cable. I love the deck, and the iPod interface is as smooth as can be. I'm very excited, but two pro installers and myself took a crack at the modifry IR DCI and could not get it to work. Would the IR protocol have changed with '06?

I emailed bob @ modifry but no response yet.

I dont recall, but does the 9852 have a remote function (can a remote be used for it?)

If so, it should work.

The Alpine IR DCI (from Modifry) works fine with a 9856 and the 9852 is listed on Alpine's site as being wireless remote ready using the same remote as the 9856, so it should work. Are you sure
you have the IR emitter close to the IR sensor?

On the 9856, the IR sensor is in the upper right hand corner of the faceplate.

hey mkbruce. i have a 9856 and just installed modifry's dci ir version and it works great but the CH button only changes the band connection. Is there a way to help me change songs on my ipod or change presets on my tuner?

While using the iPod, hold down the Audio button while pressing Volume Up or Down to change tracks.

While using the radio, hold down the CH button while pressing Volume Up or Down to change stations.

For complete information on functions of the DCI see:

check on the back of the HU and see if there is a 3.5mm jack then you can use the Modifry wired DCI...

known capability w/ CDA-9851, CDA-9853, CDA9855

I have a similar problem. I installed an Alpine 9856 and Modifry's IR dci.. no joy with getting it to work. Matter of fact, when I turn on the ignition the dci itself gets very hot. Anyone else had this happen?

This is big. I was thinking of getting a 9856 or 9857, but i'm not going back to having to manually change channels, etc.
Huh!!! What are you implying. The 9856 works flawlessly with Modifry's DCI. The stock dash controls give more functionality with this setup that they do with the factory head unit.
