Default Alpine CDA-9855.......

After e-mailing a sales rep about why everyone is sold out of the Alpine CDA-9855 head unit, they responded that this "product will not restock any time soon due to it having many defects."

Anyone know anything about this? Seems a little strange for an Alpine product.
Anyone had any bad experiences with this head unit?

I know last year when I was trying to get a 9835 it was hard to find it in stock, and that's before Best Buy started carrying Alpine. I know practically every store carries at least on of these units in stock (every one being the 9855, not 35).

I haven't had any problems with my 55 yet, but if the model truely is defective, they'll have a lot of returns b/c with a seller like Best Buy selling a bunch of these (being an authorized reseller), they could be in for some serious headaches.

I found a link that shows others having problems with this head unit. It's a forum

Sounds like it's a matter of getting a new batch compared to an older one in the production line (what I gathered from a quick skim).

Yea. I think they halted distribution of this product until they fix all the bugs. Lot's of sellers have been out of stock on this product for some time now. I will contact Alpine and see what they are doing about this and what I should expect. I hope they just fix all the problems and then re-release it.

Seems like their higher-end stuff has been buggy or "rushed" as of late. Some features that IMO should've been in the 9835 didn't show up until the 55. I don't know, just an observation.

Knock on wood, no problems on mine. I have noticed however that the glide touch thing tends to not like to select the #1 preset if the car has been sitting in the sun.

I'm going to buy their second batch that's shipping soon. I'll post if I notice any problems with that.
