Default Alpine CDA-9857

Alpine's 2006 head unit's are out. Just so you know the Alpine CDA-9857 doesn't have that annoying glide touch anymore. Also you don't need the KCA-420 ipod converter to hook up your ipod. You just need a 30 dollar cable (alpine authorized dealers are giving the cables away for free with purchase of the cda-9857). This cable also lets the head unit run just as fast as the ipod does, no more slow connections or delays!! This is just an FYI kinda thing. If you want more info on it look it up.

Not to mention how many threads in the first page of the Electronics forum have CDA-9857 in the title?

what people really need to know about the 9857 is.. well it's all been covered in the other 9857 threads.

One thing no one ever mentions: how does the radio perform? I've read that Alpines have bad reception. I like listening to AM talk radio during my commute so that could be a deal breaker.

Anyone?

For the 4 minutes I used mine it was pretty good.. but I only used it to make sure the DCI and iPod cable worked then it came back out so I could remove more parts to route the sub and speaker wires...

I don't listen to AM but it picked up FM fine.

I have radio, XM, in dash cd, a 6 disc mp3 changer and an IPOD in my car. Ever since I got the fullspeed, the alpine has never been switched to any mode other than the ipod. I have about 8500 songs on it, and about 11000 that are still not on it. I have no reason to use anything else.

Too bad I cant sell any of my gear. IPODS made all my stuff obsolete.

Yeah with that many songs who needs a radio! I don't see why manufacturers just don't offer a CD player-less HU that you can just plug an iPod into. I mean literally insert the iPod into a little well under the faceplate. One less cable to have to deal with.
In time my friend. Soon enough, Ipods will be insterted into pregnant women, into their kids. They will have a fullspeed connection through their belly button. You will be able to store a terrabyte of data on your kid. Technology is amazing! They will phase out cds one day.

I'm looking at both the cda -9856 and cda 9857...any particular reasons for choosing one over the other.

I'm looking for just basic ipod connectivity and just overall better sound. I'm not a sound whore so I probably won't go much farther than the head unit and upgrading the front speakers.

Also, does the dci modifry thing work for the 9856, i saw it did for the 9857
