Default Alpine CDA-9887 questions

I just installed the alpine cda9887... when I press the rotory button i only get fader -- balance -- sub level -- defeat. Is there no treble or bass option?

The multiEQ button does not do anything... the owners manual states if certian audio processing componets are connected the option would be disabled. When alpine says "audio processing componets" would that include an amp?

Here's my setup:
CDA-9887 ----> PDX-2.150 ---> Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1

Figured it out... The owners manual is NOT clear in any way about this.

Anyway, to enable bass and treble options, as well as the miltiEQ button, the CDA9887 requires the use of the KTX-100EQ (imprint sound manager). An extra $250 or apparently you can rent the device from Crutchfield for $50.

yea owners manual sucks... I try to steer everyone that asks me away from the 9887 because of it not being easy to use and having to have imprint to program everything.... I charge $50 per car each time I imprint it

Page 13 defeat must be off to change the bass/treble features.

According to alpine's website, the CDA-9887 has all of imprint's features built-in. Except for the acoustic calibration thing. Isn't that what makes this unit different from the 9886?

Here's another question.... So i have the Kappa Perfects installed. They sound great and all except for one thing. Between 3khz - 4khz there is this LOUD sound that over powers the rest of the music. Most noticeable with electric guitars playing (extremely apparent with bands like Bullet For My Valentine). It reminds me of a kid screaming in your ear, but without the pain (makes since, maybe?).

What's weird is, if I lean forward in the car, (my head is centered in the car) that way the tweeters are to my left and right the over powering frequency really minimizes (almost non apparent). It seems to be apparent/sucks when sitting back in the seat because your position to the tweeter is not in the directional path. I

The tweeters can be adjusted +/- 5db from the crossovers.

Even when I open the doors making the tweeters face toward me, its such a huge improvement. (top up or down, makes no difference)

Maybe I made a wrong decision in purchasing these speakers.

I was going to buy the 9887 this week but I keep reading about the hassle with bass and treble on it without the imprint unit to set up. Would the 9886 be a better idea if I don't want to deal with the hassle of imprint?
