Alpine iDA-X001
I am looking at getting that iDA-x001 deck, the one with the big wheel in the middle, no CD player, just digital media. That model is a year old but I've seen it online for 250ish...while the new model is like 400! Its full color screen, album art, etc...
Anyone have experience with this deck and think that for the money there is anything else better out there? Im worried maybe about not having CD capability, but if I have my ipod touch as well as a thumb drive, i dont think that i would need anymore music than that.

Yea....but it doesnt have as much bling
The X001 was a $400 deck when it came out I believe and can be had for a really good price. I looked at the X300/200/100 and the lower end one (300) just doesnt really have as many features...mainly the color screen and album art, etc...

I have the 001. I love it. I also have XM, and a 6 disc changer in the secret compartment, but with a full 160GB ipod (or any USB drive) I don't need anything else. The control layouts are a little backwards, but you get used to it.

Check for the post I made about creating your own backgrounds for it. A couple free programs you would need to dl and you can take any picture of your own and turn it into a background for your IDA. Not sure how many people use it as the post pretty much had no responses. hahaha I know I like to use it, just adds a bit more personality to your player compared with the generic backgrounds you can dl from Alpine.
I'm sure you will like it. I have really enjoyed having the player in the car, albeit a couple times I purchased a new CD, get in the car and say DAMN, can't listen to it. Just run home, and upload onto the IPod and back in business. As another poster stated he/she has a 6 disc changer as well so you could aways go that route too. For me, trying to shed weight and that extra 1lb is just TOO much.
Not really, just don't see the need for it even with the above scenario happening a few times.
