Default Alpine SPX-177A

Hi EJ's

OK I have Alpine SPX-177's running in my car. My passenger side main unit wasn't giving out any sound (The tweeter was fine) so after checking a few things, I wired up another speaker to test there was a signal, yes there was.

So I removed the main unit of the one speaker which isn't working, and brought it inside the house. I notice that there is a little water on it, and when shook a tiny bit more water came out.

1. If i leave it to dry out do you think it will work again?

2. HTF did the water get in in the first place? (inside the door seems dry)

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Hmmm, give it a try and let it dry out, i think youve probably blown it.

Go into wallet, get credit card out, www.caraudiodirect.co.uk and buy one

it wasn't G&T

I'll let it dry out and see what happens. I don't know if it is possible to buy just one driver like that.

Ian, let it dry. Then test it again. If that doesnt work we'll go from there.

If you have a household stereo, you can just test it there and see if you get sound (that way you dont have to run to your car)....

too late, been to the car and tested it. Still not working. I guess it is screwed.

The SPX-177A has been superceded byt the SPX-177R I think, which are different spec. SO question is if I can source just the woofer for the A here, or get a brand new set of R's

UNLESS you know how to fix this broken driver?

Hard to know what exactly is broken. My guess is the coil fried. Alpine should sell the woofers seperately, but you will wind up paying retail, and for that money, you can probably get a set of new speakers online. I guess call Alpine a call and see how much they want for a new woofer.

For comparison purposes... I bought my Kappa Perfects for about $250, and Infinity charged me $100 for a new woofer after I stabbed mine with a screwdriver....it almost wasnt worth it.
