Thumbs up Alpine system

I have the alpine type R components(not installed yet) and I'm looking for an amp to power these. I work at Best Buy so i was hoping to get one from there. I was looking at getting the Alpine 4 channel MRP-F240.

360W x 2 peak output @ 4 ohms, bridged

100W RMS (continuous) x 2 @ 4 ohms, bridged, 20Hz-20kHz, 0.3% THD

50W RMS (continuous) x 4 @ 2 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 0.3% THD

40W RMS (continuous) x 4 @ 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 0.8% THD

I was thinking of bridging it so i will run 100RMS to each and 360 max.
speakers are rated at 70RMS and 350 Max. Would bridging over power the speakers too much or would it be fine?

I run that same amp bridged with my Infinity kappa perfect component set, sounds great

Only problem I see is that the Type R components are only rated for 70wrms. I am not sure what they can actually take. If you bridge that amp, you will be running 100wrms to them.....almost a 50% overpower. I dont know if 40wrms (non-bridged) will be enough (at the 4-ohm impediance of the Type-R's).

The question is how underrated the amp will be (Alpine is notorious for delivering higher bench values) as well as exactly what the Type-R components can take.

Darkknight1999 should chime in, as he has an all Alpine system.

Alrighty...

Well as mentioned most(every one of them I've ever installed) Has been under rated. My most recent time was last week with an Alpine MRD-M1005... yeah its rated at 1000 watts, but in reality it was 1100+ watts, and the other one was the Alpine MRA-D550, it was rated at 45x5 @ 4ohm on the box and in reality it was a whopping 81watts a channel @ 4ohm... that's almost double.

So I highly doubt you'll need to bridge them to get the power your looking for. I wouldn't bridge it if I was you. I would bet that your amp if under rated like the rest of them.
Do you know what its rated at? You can open the boxes and check it out.

If that is the case, I am sure he would be fine with the 2 channel alpine amp they sell there, the MRP-F220 (I think). Its rated at like 40x2 or something close to that, and it would be about $100 cheaper

what do you mean by open the box and check the rating? does it say a different thing inside the box than on the outside? I'm kinda new to the audio scene so yea....thnx for all your help!

the MRP-T220
250W peak output @ 4 ohms, bridged
140W RMS (continuous) @ 4 ohms, bridged, 20Hz - 20kHz, 0.3% THD
70W RMS (continuous) x 2 @ 2 ohms, 20Hz - 20kHz, 0.3% THD
50W RMS (continuous) x 2 @ 4 ohms, 20Hz - 20kHz, 0.08% THD

so alpine's amps are actually more powerful than they say they are?
and are there any amps that would be better for my setup or would it be best to stay with alpine? I have the alpine 9855 HU.
another question is where should i mount the tweeters? i have an 01 so yea.....i was thinkin of using the external pods that are included and putting them on top of the dash next to the A-pillars....any other options? i wanted to put them on the door like the newer S but i don't have any proper pods to mount them to the curved part of the door. I have a feeling it might be too far away on the dash....

If you open the box of any Alpine amp there is a piece of paper in there, on that piece of paper are the ACTUAL bench test numbers, those bench test numbers are the actual numbers.

so alpine's amps are actually more powerful than they say they are?
Yes, that what we mean by under-rated, as in the numbers on the side of the box are lower than the actual power numbers.

No Alpine makes nice amps. There are other amps but for the money they make a great amp.

another question is where should i mount the tweeters?
Well you have an 01 so I would suggest placing them on the dash... facing the dash. It will give an even sound. If you really want to put them in the stock location you can buy the pods and install them in there. But given the fact you don't have them yet I would say put them on the dash... just don't ghetto them out Doing this over course requires you to tune the system to that... You right stating that they will be far away, far away from the mid-bass woofer. You'll need to adjust the crossover for that space.
