Alternator...
Whats up fellas.....just curious......I got this crutchfield car stereo installation guide....and was reading it for fun. It says that you would need a 90AMP alternator to run 500 watts RMS without damaging flow of electricity for the cars electronics. I will have high power components up front, (150x2) and 1 10" in the trunk (about 300-350WATTS). Can the stock alternator take this? THanks guys.

i sure do hope so... i'm running close to 750Wrms daily...
actually -- this is a good question. one that has crossed my mind every so often, but i've never remembered to look around...
a little searching later...
here's a good thread w/ some solid info from way back
and another... that's much more recent
looks like we're ok...
edit: looks like Mac beat me to it... the first thread reports that the S2000 alternator is rated for 105 amps.

to point out the obvious. just because your system is rated for 500W RMS, doesn't mean you're using that much
i'm running around 800RMS myself, but it'd be way too loud if i was actually using all of it for an extended period of time.

Thanks guys. I think that if I am on the freeway doing like 80, for like 2 hours and cracking my music. my speed should charge that thing right up. Good...you guys alleviated my concerns. any tips since you all are pros...if you have and how you got rid of alternator whine? Thanks fellas

Well, don't expect speed to make it crank out more power...if it's rated for 105A, that's all you're going to get, even at speed. In fact, while sitting at a light I'm sure you get much less than that.

are you suffering from whine?
if so - here's the grilling:
how are you wired?
where is your power coming from and where is it run?
where are your grounds?
what gage and lengths are your grounds?
how are they connected to the body?
what head unit are you using?
how is it connected?
what amp?
what RCA's are you using?
where are they located/ran?
(technically the next two don't address the whine issue, but cover other concerns for installs like safety...)
what gage is your power run?
where are your fuses?
i could go on a bit more - but that's a pretty sizable chunk to start w/...
