This has been discussed many times. Do a search on Nakamichi. I believe the CD400 has amber illumination. Not sure if it plays MP3, and it's kinda pricey. Quality and Sound is top notch.

I adjusted my Alpine to turn amber at night to match the dash.

Alpine CDA-9887 does Amber/Red

If you want a pure audiophile and absolute classic look:

RFX-8250ti (Denford)

I used to own one

That's because there is probably only one for sale every 6 months or so.

They will usually fetch between $500 and $700 used... mine went for $550

I have a CDA-9833. No longer made.

The dial turns through the entire color spectrum. This I have the Amber in the S2000 and a more green version to match the dash in my DD. (Same HU in both cars).

This only changes the color of the large buttons though, the display un changed and this may not be what you want.

A lot of the Clarions offer amber too, I believe.

Seriously though, I have the Alpine iDA-X100 and keep it set to the red. I thought the color not matching the rest of the interior lighting would bother me, but it really doesn't at all.

I would stick with buying the head unit that has the features that you are really looking for and not worry about the color as much.
