Default Amp in center of spare tire.

In my effort to maintain the spare tire and avoid placing the amp in the trunk I think i've seen an image of someone who put their amp in the center of the spare tire.

Anyone see this before ? Good/bad idea ?

I'm planning on running an Audiobahn aw100t and the best amp I can find that would fit in that center spot. (if possible.)

Thanks for the help.

I have only seen one installed in there once. I think it was an Alpine 220 (not sure on that...its was the small 50wx2). I doubt you will find a 400wrms amp that will fit in there. You can mount an amp over the gas tank, next to the spare. It just needs to be a thinner amp with good heat dissipation characteristics.

Running an amp thats not as good as you want, just for the sake of the spare tire isnt the best idea. Mount a better amp somewhere else....like to the left of the spare tire bolted to a board. Much more functional. Youll be there for 3 hours changing a flat with an amp and wiring tucked into the spare tire. Not the best idea if you ask me. Ditch the spare, and get AAA.

Besides, where are you planning to mount the Sub?

The well in the trunk is designed to carry your flat tire. If you have a sub in there, you are kinda screwed anyway.

This is a great idea and many S2000 owners have done it. I have one 4-channel Alpine Amp in there, of which I'm using only two channels to power my rear speakers.

One S2000 owner has TWO amps inside his spare tire stacked with a homemade spacer to allow for air cooling.

It is possible to use quick-disconnects in case you need to use the spare.

I have a 2 channel amp powering my front speakers. Rear speakers were added afterwards and the amp wasn't changed to 4 by the previous owner. It sits inside the spare on top a towel to keep it from banging around.

Would you by chance be interested in trading your 4 channel for my 2 channel plus some cash? I'm planning on getting an aftermarket HU and changing to a 4 channel amp to power all 4 of the aftermarket speakers.

Good Point!

To be honest I never even thought of the fact that after I change my spare tire I will need a place to store the flat tire/rim!!!!

Cuz the only time I take the spare is on long road trips which means I most likely have a passenger and tons of luggage too...wow this could be a problem.

If I don't put the sub in the well for sake of having space in an emergency to hold the rim/tire, where else can I put a sub?

I remember someone here sells an enclosure for the sides of the trunk....?

rick...

the enclosure you're talking about is the one i ordered.

here's the pic of it installed: Sits in the passenger corner of the trunk...so if i did get a flat the well is still open to put the tire.

A couple of us have accomplished this with the Alpine 240 amp. Check out my recent post:
