Theres 2 pretty big spots underneath the car, in the rear corners between the trunk and the bumper. Ive seen an S2000 that had amp wires going there in this one car that was for sale.
Just curious... has anyone installed an amp there before?
It would have to be in a weatherproof box or something ....
No and .... no... Why would you want to mount the amps outside the car like that? If you had a total show car... maybe... but even then. Why not just mount them in the trunk.
Not sure I want to, was just kicking the idea around
It would be to save precious trunk space, since I'm a single father and have to pick up groceries almost daily, and carry around a gym bag and a laptop computer already.
I have a nice amp on a custom shelf for the spare tire area, but I will loose my spare tire when i install it, so I am just checking out the other options.
Are there any extra small amps I should consider for the trunk? I could even get by with a 1 channel sub amp.
You can look into an amp like a Zapco that are fairly thin, long but thin. You might be able to fit them in next to the space tire above the gas tank. If you do I would put a fan on it to help keep it cool but it should fit.
I have seen a JL 300/4 over the gas tank before.....tight but do-able. Also, if you are looking for a cabin amp, smaller ones like Boston Accoustic GT-22, or some Memphis amps, can fit under the driver's seat. If you can get a thin one, you can mount it vertical behind the passenger's seat (as the foot well is so deep) and just put the seat a few clicks up.
You can be creative with the available space by the gas tank. I mounted a compact Hifonics 4 channel amp in the space over the gas tank. The amp fits neatly between the bulkhead and the rubber covered lines.
I just finished installing a subwoofer amp in the small space just over the tank near the sender.
The look is stock and stealth, and I still have the spare.
Here's a JL Audio 300/4 over the gas tank in my car.
Like Chris said - completely stealth and I still have my spare. With the trunk panels back in place there is no hint of this amp even existing in my car other than the power leads under the hood.
