Question Amp Help!

Hey guys. I currently have everything except an amp and wire just sitting on my floor cause i dont know what amp to get im completely stumped.

Okay so as for now i have 2 Alpines rated at 110rms and 330peak watts. I may add a sub later on but i want to see what these sound like first. Anyway I have heard get a 2 channel, 4 channel bridged, 5 channel with 2 bridged channels and leave 1 for sub... i just dont know what to do.

Also some guy at an audio shop told me to go well over the max wattage rating on my speakers w/ my amp saying you can always go down but not up... is this a smart idea? or should i get something around 110rms x2 watts? and what ohms should i be looking at? 2 or 4? and whats best to go with?....Also one last question is i see people with all the battery clamps that i guess splits off a dedicated power supply to the amp with an inline fuse under the hood, do I need anything like this for my setup??? Help me out please! I wanna start installin some of this stuff!

Man, you asked this question already. In the other thread. And you got plenty of answers. Why ask again?

its just that I needed a little more direct answer on what exactly i need for an amp, i greatly appreciate all the other help as I am now one step closer, i just need this last push to help me get all the correct things so i dont regret it.

All i need now is to know all the things i need, or point me in the correct direction. This is my very first time ever even seeing all this stuff, so its a lot to swallow all at once. Also my friends are telling me all many different things.

In the last post, and a few other people mentioned getting a 4 channel amp. That sounds like it would work BUT I have a few problems with it. It seems like it would be a waste if im never going to get a sub, and the only reason i wouldent want a sub would be weight and lack of a place to put a spare tire.

Sorry to ask and everything I just want to be sure I get all the correct hardware, Its just that so many people are telling me to do so many different things its just lead me into so much more confusion, i just want the best possible way to set this up with the correct wattage. (For example one of my friends was telling me to just bridge the connection from the headunit. I dont even know if its possible for this head unit, Or if it would get me proper wattage.)

Thanks again. And sorry for all the questions

If it all confuses you...stick to simplicity. Get an amp that will be around the wattage of your speakers. JL audio is always a good choice, and Darknight sells alphasonik amps that people also say are good. Darknight can offer you a good price and warranty with the alphasonik amps too. A JL 300/2 will be just fine for your speakers(150 to each speaker) or...if alphasonic, i think they are listed as 150.2 (JL does total power, I think alpha does the power of each channel) Either way, if you get an amp that will deliver 330 to each speaker, kiss your ears goodbye. Just get somethign around 100-150 watts.
Get a two channel. Since you dont even know if youre going to get a sub, dont bother with a 4 channel. You can always add an amp later.

For the connectors to the battery and what not...I think you only have to do that if you are not using an amp...just using HU power, but i could be very wrong in saying that...so dont know how much help that is.

okay cool thank you, now if i decide to get another amp its not much of a problem adding and additional i suppose. As for the 330 watt comment i agree, i dont know what the guy at the shop was talking about telling me to get well over the max power of my speakers.

As for the battery tho i think the whole thing is it just is a direct power source from the batter to amp, but if i used two, would i need 2 power cables running back thru the fire wall or does it branch?? thank you very much!

If I were just starting out I get a good pair of speakers and a moderatly priced and powered 2 channel amp and go (or stop) from there.
Unless your hardcore, you might not need a subwoofer.

well, at times i do like to listen to my music loud, and I do like a little bump in my music, nothing overpowering tho. I'm just still deciding on 2 separate amps or 1 big 4 channel for addition of sub.

Just run a large enough power cable to the battery to handle future growth (ie, another amp for a sub). Get a PDU/PDB to downsize from the larger gauge wire to smaller wire for the individual amps. Same basic deal on the grounding side, smaller wires from the individual amps to the grounding block, then a larger wire from the block to your ground location. Use the same size wires as your positive wires IMO in the same "order", in other words from the batt to the PDB same size as the grounding block to the ground location, and PDB to amps same size as amps to grounding block.

Calculate the wiring that you'll need based on the amps you select, but you will want at least 4gauge main wire and likely 8 gauge wire going from the blocks to the amps., possibly larger main runs, but it'll depend.

Oh yeah, run a set of RCA's for the sub when you run the RCA's for the main channels, this will obviously save you time later on if you add a sub..
