Default Amping Stock Head Unit

I know it has been spoken of a great deal in these forums but could someone please relate their results of using the stock head unit with a good quality amp and nice splits??

I am getting frustrated with all of the different info out there.

Thanks

It will sound the same, but louder.

i amped the radio in my 99 integra. it actually sounded pretty good. I was using aftermarket speakers, though. It was made by Matsushita, which I believe is the same as the 2001 S radio. Many say they are made by Alpine, but that is not the case. They are made by matsushita, with the Alpine bus specs. Matsushita owns Panasonic.

if it turns out you hate it, a head unit with preouts can be purchased new for $100 or used for a lot less.

Yeah I am going to put a pair of JL splits and a 2 channel JL amp.

I figure that I may as well do it properly and put in a head unit as well.

Its just in Australia components are a a bit more expensive than it seems in the US. Also to keep the dash controls is an expensive exercise.

I spose the MP3 option is good considering you also lose the stacker.......

I had an Alpine V12 and some alpine coax speakers on a 2003 radio (2000 car though). It sounded good as far as I could tell. Now, I've never compared to an aftermarket head unit, so that could be twice as good...I just don't know why everyone is bashing the act of amping a stock HU.

I think the 00' head unit is not as good as the 03'.

I bit the bullet last night and bought a JVC head unit KD-615. Infinity amp and splits.

That should be sufficient to piss my girlfriend off!!
