Most people(98%) put them in the trunk. Yes your trunk will rattle unless you install a sound deadener in the trunk and take care of the vent in the trunk and the license plate.

I have an Alpine Type-R 10 and I have no rattles to speak of.

 

I have a type r 12, I only rattle if the top is up. I do have a good amount of sound deadening in the trunk. if the top is up the plastic tray that the soft top sits in rattles ALOT. anyone know how to fix that??? I als plan on insulating the top of the trunk lid cause you can here that rattle a little from the outside. I adjusted the rubber stopper on the trunk out a little more and that made a big difference.

 

Which vent is this you speak of? I Dynamated the trunk yesterday and it helped alot, now it just seems the car swells when the bass hits!

 

If you look up under the drivers side of the rear bumper you'll see it. It help release the pressure in the trunk when you close it. I filled mine in with polyfil and covered both sides with a sheet of Dynamat.
