Default Antenna Reception

Does everybody have crappy reception from their antenna or is it just me? I get ok FM reception, but no AM at all. The guy at the stereo shop said that my antenna was no good. The installer pulled off my antenna and stuck a hanger down the hole and I would get better reception, but he said I needed to replace the whole antenna unit. I had a panasonic head unit before and the fm reception was a little scratchy, but now is good with the new alpine 9835, but no AM. Any ideas???

Did you know that the S2000 uses an amplified antenna system? The antenna must have a 12V power source to work properly.
