After reading the review of the TS-C720PRS speakers in Car Audio & Electronics, I was planning to get them for my new s2k, but luckily found a local dealer first and took a listen. Now, the installation was perhaps not ideal, but I found the tweeters to be a bit on the harsh side, and I couldn't hear all the fantastic mid-bass the reviews mention (could have been that they were crossed over too high). I ended up buying a set of new old stock a/d/s 236is speakers and will hopefully have them installed soon.
I also saw an 880PRS head unit installed in a car, and it's pretty nice. Lots of built-in flexibility/adjustablility, but I think a lot of that is probably lost in a car like ours. I plan to use an iPod as my main music source, so having to add an external box for that was a downside for me. I'm planning to get the Alpine IDA-X001, which is ideal for iPod, but not for other sources, and doesn't have the built-in EQ, crossovers, etc...
But Modifry makes a DCI for the Pioneer decks, so you shouldn't have any problem keeping control of the dash controls.
I have no personal experience with onlinecarstereo.com but recall seeing some positive reviews/comments from people on the diymobileaudio forum at the time I was considering the Pioneer speakers.
Cheers,
Phil

philbert, did you have the C720PRS mid install in your stock location. How did it fit?
The OEM speaker cutout appears to be 130mm which works fine with most aftermarket with a 3/4 mdf baffle but the C720PRS magnet is large, and looks like it require a 140mm cutout per spec. I am considering getting this comp set due to its rave review on diymobileaudio but is not so sure. Would be great if you can share your experience.

The 880PRS is an excellent unit esp if you are into fine tuning your system. Not many units allow you to fine-tune L & R channel separately (e.g. TA, level, etc.), run a 3-way active, etc. I got this a few months ago and can't be happier. The Auto EQ saved me a lot of time in tuning - I'm not sure if I'll get a HU without that in the future.
Another nifty feature is to allow you to set a driver mode, driver+passenger mode so you won't leave your passenger in a sound vacuum. It also allows me to turn on the internal amp so it runs cooler than other unit that has the internal amp running all the time.
My only gripe about this unit is the stupid multi-function dial and menu system which is difficult to use, I ended up using the remote most of the time. I was also hoping for a 5V+ preamp out at this price point.

Upgrade to the Eclipse CD7100 and you'll get 8V pre-outs plus eye candy and reputably the best sound reproduction on the market...Don't get me wrong, you'll pay for it, but you get what you pay for here.
I would also suggest going with a higher quality speaker set. Check Ebay. You can pick up some very high quality speakers at really good prices (I picked up my Diamond Hex S600s' for approx $250, and a set of Image Dynamics Chameleon's for about the same). But, before you pick a set, go to a lot of high end car audio shops and listen to what they have. Compare them to what you hear from the speakers you're looking at (make sure YOU take a CD of music YOU'll listen to, and that it's the same CD/Track every time you demo - even try to keep to the same HU).
