Default Apline set up help

I have an Alpine idax-305s and i just bought a KTP-445 which i haven't installed yet.

Are the stock AP2 speakers going to sound OK with this set up or am i going to need new speakers? if so, which ones? im thinking of the Alpine type s 6 1/2 component set. the power seems to match up well with the KTP. im a noob though...

im not going for anything crazy or perfect, i just want a little bit better sound to counter my invidia with the top down.

any input would be helpful. thanks!

Changing the head unit alone makes quite a difference. If I was adding additional amplification as you are, I would want to upgrade speakers to get the full benefits of my investment tho'...stock speakers just won't get it done.

Watch out with the KTP-445, I could never get it to work and when I called Alpine tech support they told me that it needs a minimum of 4 speakers to operate properly. I ended up hooking up on amp to run both the components and then bridge 2 channels for the sub. As far as components, I went with the Polk Db6501's, easy install, cheap, and once amped give great sound. There are much more expensive sets out there that I looked at but after amping the Polks I am happy enough to stick with them.

I would definately get new speakers, especially since you already have an amp and HU. I have my amp and sub out of my S now cause im making a box and a nice display. The difference between amped speakers and non amped, is night and day. I got the Infinity Kappa Coaxial's. I like to listen to music loud, but still want a crisp clear sound instead of just "loud". They are resonably priced and are top notch quality. A few cool things about them are the tweeters in the center of the speaker are slightly angled and you can rotate them to face any direction. They also have a button on the tweeters than allow you to add or subtract a few decibels to fine tune the tweeter to your liking.
Definately worth it IMO, for around $150 you can add these speakers and you will be blown away by the sound quality.

Interesting. I and others haven't had any problems with the KTP-445.

I have heard that from a few people now but I just couldn't get it to work. Once I reached the end of my stereo install knowledge (which is limited) I went to 3 different install shops to see if they could make it work...no luck. In the end, I went with a Alpine PDX 4.150 to power the components and bridged the other two channels to the sub. If anyone wants to give the 445 a shot I've still got it and am not doing anything with it. Ill let it go cheap or trade for whatever you have and want to get rid of

I've got almost the exact same setup. I am running the iDA x303 with the KTP 445 and the sps600c speakers. I had no issues installing other than having to cut the stock speaker baskets (you could always buy/make another set). I actually had the system installed and then added the power pack and noticed a marked improvement.

Good luck.

the type Rs look good, but the ktp wont power them and i am avoiding mounting an amp. Im not expecting great quality since the S is convertible and I have an invida exhaust. I just need louder sound that is more clear than the stock speakers at higher volumes. Plus im going with Alpine, not mcintosh or some crazy company that im really expecting too much from.

Reckon, thanks for the feedback, this is good news. Where did you put the KTP by the way? i ended up putting mine behind the passenger panel cover/ heater blower cover.
