Default Audio Questions, and Advice

Ok, i will be buying an 02, or 03 S2K fairly soon, heres what i am looking for

I would like to keep the audio controls to the left of the steering wheel if possible, if i have to keep the stock HU, then so be it.

Amp- Probably a 2 channel, 100 or 125x2 (any advice for a good one???)
Speakers- Boston Acoustics Pro series...end of story (will i have a problem with them fitting???)
I would like to have a sub, but i dont want one in the trunk as i want to keep my space.
So i was thinking this. If its not a good idea, i just wont do it.

Is there anything else you guys can recommend me, do i need a LOC for the Stock HU, or can i use an aftermarket one with the stock controls to the left of the steering wheel??? please any help would be good

If this $ issue is true, then you must replace stock HU with good after market HU if you want good/clean sound from your stereo, and you will need DCI (Dash Control Inteface) to be able to retain your dash controls on the left of the steering.

Boston Acoustics Pro Series component (6.5") is a good fit to current door speakers.

Boston Acoustics amps are very good, GT-22 is what you need to drive the Boston Pro Series.

Clarion SRV303 Sub-woofer is probably a little too big to fit under either seat, you may be able to install it behind either seat.

As PJK3 suggested, there are a lot more infos in the FAQ.

No the GT-24 is what should power them, its 125x2, thats thier perfect RMS, those speakers can pull alot, and i like my power.

The clarion was just an idea, if i did it, i might also go with a basslink in the trunk instead, ive had good luck with those.

heh. be careful.
looking at the manual, the GT-24 makes 125Wrms x 2 @ 4 ohms but at 12.6 V. at 14.4 V, it's making notably more at 175 Wrms x 2 @ 4 ohms.
the GT-22 makes 75 Wrms x 2 @ 4 ohms at 12.6 V. at 14.4 V it's making 100 Wrms x 2 @ 4 ohms.

now.... the Pro 60's are actually 3 ohm speakers ohs nos....

let's relook at those power figures. neither lists 3 ohm power figures, so we'll have to interpolate the power values.

the GT-24 makes 275 Wrms x 2 @ 2 ohms & 14.4 Volts and 200 Wrms x 2 @ 2 ohms & 12.6 V

the GT-22 makes 175 Wrms x 2 @ 2 ohms & 14.4 V, and 135 Wrms x 2 @ 2 ohms & 12.6 V.

a little interpolation later gives us:

the GT-24 makes 225 Wrms x 2 @ 3 ohms & 14.4 Volts and 162 Wrms x 2 @ 3 ohms & 12.6 V

the GT-22 makes 137.5 Wrms x 2 @ 3 ohms & 14.4 V, and 105 Wrms x 2 @ 3 ohms & 12.6 V.

the GT-22 is clearly the better pick of the 2 for amping the Pro's. as it will be making almost exactly the rated power at normal operating conditions. (about 14 V)

oh -- and no question. aftermarket head unit. look into modifry or DJ Qube's DCI (Dash Control Interface) to keep and expand your dash controls.

please -- check the FAQ. 75% of your questions are already answered there.

man, i didnt even think about that, your right.

My Elemental Designs amp runs 65 x 4 at 4 ohms, at 10.5v.
I got it benched at 13.5 and it was putting out 87 x 4.

I recommend Alpine's CDA9855 as a head unit with the IPOD interface. Allows you to search playlists etc on the HU, so IPOD can stay locked away. Rather than Alpine's DCI, I suggest Modifry's DCI. It not only lets you keep your controls, but increases the functions. Also has auto volume increase with increased speed. I have this set up and it really works well. You can get a Modifry DCI for almost any HU you choose. Check out the links on the Marketplace.
