Default ? Auto Up/Down button for passenger window

Here's an idea:

I'd like to have the button for the passengers window work the same as the auto up/down for the drivers window.

That would make it way easier when putting the top up and down.

Has anyone ever done this before ? What is required to make it such a mod work ?

The stock driver's side window has a "stall sensor" built into the motor to detect when the motor stops running (window down). It works in conjunction with the electronics inside the drivers window switch to control the auto-down. The passenger window mechanism has none of this.

That doesn't mean you can't do it, it just means it will be harder. You can either use a timer (apply power for 8 seconds) and assume the window is up or down, or you have to build the stall sensor circuitry.

There are some after-market modules to allow window roll-up from your alarm system, I assume they would work with or w/o an alarm if you had a separate switch to activate them. Since I've never actually used one, I don't have the details.

I have thought about the auto-up feature for use after raising the top, and may someday put one on my car. But auto-down before lowering the top is not needed, the convertable top module takes care of that.

Could you just use the same motor (as in part number) that is on the driver window, on the pasanger side. Then all you would have to do would be change the motor and switch. Just a thougt, I'm thinking of giveing a try.

Both of my windows go down automatically when I lower the top. This would suggest that they both have a motor with the same "stall sensor" functionality. Given this reasoning, the only piece one might need to change would be the switch telling the motor to auto down.

Maybe too simple.

I have installed and used the modules on my Audi. They are pretty straight forward and easy to install. A company called Autoloc makes them. They advertize in European Car and their sister publications. I they have a web site. I put an auto up and down on the passenger side of my S4. I placed it close to the switch on the passenger side so that both the driver and passenger side switches trigger it. I plan on doing the same on the stook when I take the door panels off for the Polks.

If you want them to both go down while the top is closed, you just have to push forward on the roof switch as if you were trying to close it. The windows will go down and that is all.
