Aux input for stock or Sony headunit?
Lucid, S2Kman, anyone else who knows,
is it possible to add a wired auxiliary input source to either the stock head unit or an aftermarket Sony headunit (one compatible with S2Kman's dash controls)?
I'm thinking somehow tapping into the CD changer wiring on the harness might work...
Thanks,
Ted

Lucid,
I'm planning on using an FM transmitter temporarily, but I was hoping to find a way to hard wire it.
Which FM adapter are you using? I assume you find the quality acceptable...
Shouldn't it be possible to tap into the CD changer input wiring on the harness?
Thanks agian,
Ted

Ted, on the back of the Sony CDX-M610 there is both a BUS AUDIO IN (L/R RCA inputs) and a BUS CONTROL IN (some sort of mini/din-plug) that I believe is used for the CD changer. The Sony manual is vague on how it is used but maybe those who are running a Sony CD changer can chime in if these inputs are just the same as RCA inputs. I don't have a scanner but if you have access to a fax machine, I can fax you the Sony diagram.
Are you using the hardwired dash control adapter with your Sony deck? If so, how do you like it? How's the deck?
Maybe I'll PM S2Kman if he doesn't chime in here soon. If no one else can answer, maybe I'll ask you to fax the Sony schematic, but don't worry about it for now. Thanks!

I have two of the FM transmiter units. One is built into a PDA mount and the other is a small portable device. They both work very well in my car. You may find that some frequencies will work better than others.
Interesting Note:
Because these units ar FM transmiters with a range of about 100 ft, you can transmit to ANY number of FM radios tuned to the transmitter frequency.
At Fall Colors, the whole group that I was in (ten cars) was tuned to the same station and I was transmitting the "F1 sound" MP3 to all the cars as we left the parking lot for the drive.
