Default Battery

What is a good replacement battery for the s2k? I know mine is going to fail eventually and I wanted to know what I should replace it with. I used to hear that the yellow top was the way to go but after doing a little reading today it seems some of the guys on the forum are no longer all about the yellow top optima anymore. Any suggestions?

I have a brand new yellowtop sitting in my garage after the first one died in 3 months. I got it replaced under warranty...but in the meantime I bought a $35 dollar battery from walmart. The walmart battery has been FAR more reliable and has had no issues thus far, so I've stuck with it.

yup, i ditched my 3rd defective yellow top for a Wallyworld special, and to be honest? it'd doing great.

i'm quite surprised, but then again - i haven't tried to deep cycle it yet.
(and give me about 10 minutes at high volume w/o the engine off? i'll give you a deep cycle. )

In over a year, I have had no issues with my Optima Yellow Top. I know others have had problems.

Honestly, I think Optima's yellowtops have gone downhill since they started making them available to stores like Sears, et al. I actually went with the Sears WeatherHandler ~$55, compared to $130 for the yellow top. No problems.

optima yellowtop i went through about 4 of them within a year all went bad (granted, 1 was bad when they (sears)gave it to me, and im pretty sure that 1 they gave me was used. i had my previous battery before the optima for 4 years no problems with current setup, and have had the battery since for almost a year no problems with current setup.

Yea, the consesus was that Optima has some serious quality control problems. Most of our members and one of my friends all had crappy Optimas. They suffered from dead cells, which show decent voltage, but drains instantly. There are a handful of us (4 that I know of) that have had no problems. Im not counting John because he doesnt have a D51...he's got the big daddy. I wouldnt say Optima is crap, but the D51s definetely have issues. My red top that sits in my RL works like a champ, as well as my yellowtop in the s2000. However, due to all the failures, I cant recommend it. Anyone remember the name of that battery someone was plugging a while back...it was on ebay, the MSRP was 300+...... It was silver and had some blue writing/graphics on it.....
