Default Best Drop In Speaker Problem with Crutchfield

158XSF1621 This component is NOT recommended for your vehicle

The speaker is the Sony XS-F1621. I thought I had seen reccomendations in the archives but Crutchfield says the above about this speaker and the S2000. (They also have a XS-V1621 that I'll check on)

Any comments?

Is there a better drop in with no cutting required? I'm not planning to change the head unit.

Hugh

(The only speakers that Crutchfield reccomends are the Kenwood KFC 1668S and the JBL Decade DS65) HELP!!

Technically, Crutchfield is correct -- there are only 2 "drop in" replacements. BUT, a whole range of other speakers fit just fine with only a little cutting of the basket. The 1621 should do just fine, but go for the 1631 -- my sales agent (Brad) said it's actually a better fit in the front side and it's sure a HUGE improvement over the stock speakers.

I don't know why it isn't recommended. It dropped into place perfectly in my car...no cutting, no wedging, no shoving, no nothing. Screw the old ones out, screw the new ones in.

Odd.

The Sony Xplode 1621 fits in the stock basket without any alterations. Trust me, thats what I have in my Stook!

Unscrewed the stock speakers, and they just dropped right in.

Got mine at the local HH Gregg store. I would think Best Buy or other stores like that will have them also.

XSV1621 is what my receipt shows as the part number. But that may be the stores designation.

Note here guys, that he's talking about the F series, not the V series....I have NO idea what the difference is, but it seems as if they have different dimensions. Ask Crutchfield for the dimensions, then look on my webpage for the dims around the speaker cavity to determine if they fit...

I bought a pair of Kenwood KFC1677's at Circuit City for $70.00 plus the Honda speaker adaptor and they dropped right in. No cutting the basket, splicing wires, just swap out the old ones. I lost the boominess of the bass the the stock speakers had but overall the sound quality is better and I can crank it without distortion. Still want to get an amp and a sub but all in good time.

from the Circuit City web site:
KENWOOD KFC1677

Unhappy with your factory speakers? Don't put out enough bass for you? Kenwood's KFC-1677 6-1/2" speakers' Strato-Blue Pearl Mica Injection Poly Woofers go down to 35 Hz with a 92 dB sensitivity. That means 2 things....they're loud...and they can deliver the bass!

Although Crutchfield doesn't say so, the Kenwood excelon KFC-XR600 is an excellent drop in replacement.

It lists for $240 a pair. Crutchfield sells it for $180 a pair. I paid $160 locally. I've heard about it being as little as $120/pair on the web.

You do need to use the Kenwood supplied wire to bridge between the tweeter and woofer and then connect that wire to the S2000's speaker wires.

1621 drop in fit....1631 cut the basket. But as Barry says the Kenwood KFC600 puts the most speaker in the hole at a reasonable cost. Just make sure you follow the directions as the speaker is a Bi-Amp and thus must be bridged to install.....wires included with the speakers. Great set-up ....thanks B-Man for turning me onto it!
