Best Stock HU Setup/Solution
I know it is not ideal to use the stock head unit, but I was thinking of trying a set of Infinity Reference Components (which I can get for $120) and an amp before I was to go off and purchase a new headunit. What kind of amp should I use?
I was also wondering if I would be able to hook up an Infinity Basslink, because buddy of mine said he'd give me his for $100 and I figure it'd be worth a shot.
Could someone give me a better idea of the best possible setup I can achieve using the stock head unit?

Bass link for a 100 is a nice deal, but if you are not plannig to keep that HU for a long time, dont get the reference. Eventhough they are nice, as long as you amp them you dont ned to go low, spend the exta and get the perfects. I think you will be happier in the long run, especially after you get your aftermarket HU.
If you never plan to change the HU, get a small cheap 2 channel amp ( 200 watts is more than enough) and reference. For a small amount of money you will have great sound.

You run the powered lines into the amp, or does the stock HU have preouts?

me too...
dierk is right... you'll need Lucid's rear speaker harness, and an amp w/ line level inputs. (i'd even suggest considering an outboard LOC (line output converter).)
you should be able to hook up an amp and Basslink to the OEM HU.
and before buying any speakers -- go listen to what you're buying... personally, i think that the Reference Series are a great bang for buck speaker, that will work quite well on an amp outputing in the 50Wrms x 2 range.
