Default Can 2004 S2000 take a 6.5" door speaker?

I've searched through all the posts but I'm still unlear on this one....

Can the 2004 s2000 accomodate 6.5" speakers ? Or will I be forced to go smaller?

I had read one post where it was stated that 2000-2003 could take 6.5" but that the 2004 could not. Is this true. I want to put 6.5" Focals in but if I can't then I guess I need to go with the 5.3".

Thanks

Yes, 6.5" will fit. That is the stock size.

Cool,

Ok so I'm looking for Opinions here on my new system.

HU: I'm thinking Alpine

I want the highest performance but my needs are pretty simple. I'm not crazy about motorized faces. But I guess I can tolerate it if I have to in order to get top performance.

Speakers: I'm thinking FOCALS.

Which model do you guys recommend? I only want to use the stock locactions in the doors (MID's and Tweet) Again I want maximum performance

Amp: Thinking about JL audio.

It was recommended I go with 3004 and bridge the 2 rear channels for the amp. Is this enough power? Should I go with two amps?

SUB: Had a guy tell me he would build me a custom box (fiber Glass) and put a kicker sub in it. What do you guys think about the stealth box for the S2000?

Since I drive with my top down 90% of the time here in SoCal I want it to sound good with the top down.

Thanks for the input.

I recommend a nice amp thats 4 channel, 150x4 @4ohms....this will give you exactly what you are looking for. As for Focals, the k2ps or any of them that can take 100wrms.

There was a post about that 300/4 JL amp. It will not work correctly with the fronts to a set of components and the rears bridged to a sub. I believe it cuts the power in half to one set of speakers(or something like that).

I've read you guys posts, and really appreciate the awesome info!! I recently bot a MY04 as well. The stereo actually sounds ok to me when I'm listening to it parked in the garage (this will give you an idea of my level of sophistication). Obviously at speed with the top down the sound quantity/quality degrades noticeably. I drive with my top down most of the time too. I listen to everything from jazz to blues to rock to country once in a while.

Q: Whats the quickest and most effective upgrade (s), that will leave me flexiblity to do more in the future.

Can I just change out the stock speakers w/o putting in an amp? Or do quality aftermarket components require amp to be effective? If so is there a smallish amp unit available that can be mounted out of the way (ie under the seat) and is this advisable.

I thought about the SPods or Lucid panels ...... but your comments on Imaging and Phasing have got me worried.

Now I know you guys might suggest I change the HU, put in amps and subwoofer etc. I appreciate that but prefer keep my car as stock as possible and I dont really want to give up trunk space. Money is not a huge concern, but I just dont think Im the kind of person who appreciate a $5,000 stereo even at home!! (yet ...)

Lastly does anyone have the specs on the OEM HU and speakers? I couldnt find them. Thanks in advance for suggestions!!

I just got my 04 not too long ago too. The sound from the head unit is pretty sucky in my opinion. I just bought the alpine 9835 head unit (haven't installed yet), and now i'm looking into door speakers like the 6.5 alpine type R or type X components. I'm going to see how that changes things up. Hopefully for the better. I already have an extra Soundstream 10.2 amp lying around, so I might add a sub later on.
