Default Can't hear lyrics with the top down. Help!

I know this has been asked time and time again... but just need an up to date answer. I have an aftermarket headunit (Alpine 7894 i think)... Pioneer speakers in the doors...and a JL stealthbox being powered by a MTX 6500d amp. When I have the top down I have trouble hearing the lyrics cuz I usually rest my leg on the door and it covers the speaker. Everytime I move my leg theres a HUGE difference in sound. What additions can I make to my system to eliminate this and have lyrics audible all the time regardless of if my leg is covering the door speaker. Tweeters? Rear speakers? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. -skt

A good set of tweeters seemed to do the job for me...I suppose it also depends on where you position them. Mine were (before the damn thieves came along) on the top right corner of the speaker grille, just out of reach of my leg. here:

Components w/ tweeters higher on the door will help.

Also rear speakers make world of difference

I wouldn't add rear speakers if I were you coz I had rears speakers and was not happy with that the sound stage gets distorted. Probably go with components and put the tweeters on the door pillars will give you you better highs. Just my opinions.

sound stage is distorted to begin with - its a loud open top roadster. Rears are nothing new in these kinda cars peek behind a seat of a Z3 sometime

Does that tweeter interfere with the air-conditioner/heater?

Or more importantly...does the air-condition/heater interfere with the tweeter?
