I would double check your wiring. I had something like that happening and it ended up be a lose wire.

 

no -- sounds like you're well w/in the amp's design.

something doesn't sound quite right. check wiring again.

and the way to check voltage... do you have an Passport 8500 by chance?
you can get the car running, crank it up, and then put a meter across the + & - leads of the amp and watch the meter.

 

 

It's power-related. Last night I noticed my dash lights (A/C ring light, etc) are still dimming with bass hits.

I have a new thought. What if I got a super-fast battery (it discharges as fast as a cap and can create electrons like a battery -- note: my wording may be off here, see site). It sounds like a better plan than a cap, and I could hide it in the spare tire well (you wire it to the amp's +/- terminals). It's about the same price as a quality cap.

I dunno man....a 40 farad cap will put some heavy strain on the alternator...ITs gonna be a lot of extra charge for the alternator to fulfill ....others want to comment????

 

That's not a cap, it's a battery. That's why I was looking at it

Edit: and it's only 5 lbs too. That's pretty cool.

 

The strain will only come from initially charging the cap... I could put a 1 kiloFarad cap on my car without issue, so long as I charge it slowly (although I'm not sure where I would put it... maybe on a trailer?)

You would pull no more power from a 5F cap than you would a 50F cap, assuming all else is equal, and you're not draining the cap to empty.


flit, I'm not really sure I see any advantage to the Bat thing you posted. I didn't read it thoroughly, but it sounded like they combined a cap and a battery in one package. You already have a battery, so why buy another?

Anyway, a super-fast battery would be better than a simple cap, having the advantages of both... ability to provide it's own power as well as providing charge ultra-quick with an ultra-low resistance. You're not going to find anything like that, though, with current technology (at least not as far as I'm aware, but some new materials may exist).

 

That is exactly what the Bat(tery)Cap(ictor) is supposed to do for me.

Unless these guys are using some technology I'm not aware of, I still think it's a combo battery and cap in one package, not something new. If that's the case, you already have a battery in your car, so just add the cap.
