Default Cda-7998.....

.....has arrived! much to my surprise, we got it in today. i'm attempting to install it tomorrow (saturday) morning at work. now that i've seen it in person, i believe it's going to fit just fine. we'll see for sure in about 12 hours. i'll post results - the only thing i can tell you after seeing it (and playing with it) in person, is WOW. amazing display, lotsa cool features, including cell phone integration (like pulling up your phone book from your phone integration). for those of you who want amplification, the amplified version of same is just as cool. well, nearly. the i-personalize software capability is very cool, but you have to get the '98 to do that. anyway, the remote is the same as the other Ai-Net units, so the sidewinder mod should still work fine. do not take me off that list more tomorrow!

and the verdict is..... *sigh*

it FITS! with a little help, that is - you have to use a washer or two on the mouting brackets to bring the HU forward about 1/8" so that it clears the lap vents in the upright setting. other than that, it works just fine. i like. lots. pics possible to come if i get to it, but don't fear - install away - it went smoother than i'd anticipated. way cool, and i'm looking at alpine's i-Personalize site to download some tweaked settings into the HU via cd-r. didja know about that? check it out!

How is the sound quality with the new sound processors in the CDA-7998?

How are the graphics on the BIO-LITE display?

I think I'll wait for the pics...the 1/8 inch spacer kind of drives my desire to see the install before proceeding.

good as my 7995 was, this one ups the ante further - amazing sound quality, especially when you use i-Personalize. did that tonight (well, started it) and you can see what it does. amazing stuff... the biolite display is stunning so far - haven't had it in bright sunlight (hardtop is on) but in every other condition it's been great. a bit bright at night (no dimmer on the '98) but perfectly tolerable - nice to have the amber button option to match the interior too. as for the spacers, you can't see 'em anyway. if you've had the radio out before, you know the four screws the unit mounts to. add washers to those screws, and your radio will sit a little closer to you, and give the top of the faceplate the extra smidge it needs to clear the lap vents. just not too much or else the door won't close. worked great for me. pics will not be forthcoming of said spacers, cause i'm not uninstalling the unit to take a picture of a washer. like i said, if you've had the radio out, you know the screws - if you haven't, i advise you do it - it takes about 10 seconds to get the frame off and see the screws. a pic of the unit installed might be coming, but not uninstalled. sorry.

That's what I am talking about...a pic of the unit installed with the Phantom Face extended and retracted so that it's possible to see how the unit looks mounted.

Lightning did you use 2 washers for every screw or is 1 enough? Thanks.
