Default CDA 9835 Dimmer Control

I run with headlights on day and night and the instrument cluster is set to run bright with the headlights on. The 9835 default dimmer setting is "AUTO" which dims the HU display with lights on. The "MANUAL" setting, according to the user guide, locks the HU dimmer at a single setting. The problem is that it locks at the low setting which means the display is dim both with the headlamps on and off - the opposite of what you would expect.

Anybody know how to overcome this so the HU is locked in the bright setting? I've tried resetting the dimmer control function with the headlights both on and off with no luck.

Thanks.

On the back of the HU have you hooked up the illumination wire?
If so you best disconnect it so it will stay bright all the time..
