Default CDA-9857 vs. DEH-P780MP

Hey guys, this is my first post on s2ki.

I'm looking at getting a new headunit for my MY06. I'm debating between the alpine cda-9857 and the pioneer premier deh-p780mp.

I've actually heard the alpine and liked the sound and their new ipod interface but after reading the forum I am starting to lean towards the premier because of the Burr Brown DA converter and the 16-band EQ. But I can't actually hear the pioneer b/c there isn't a shop around here that has that model (or the non-premier model) on display.

What do you guys think? I've read mixed opinions on the alpine and almost nothing on the pioneer

Thanks

Just to let you know, Pioneers do not have a feature where when you press the button it randomly selects a track, to have the CD player randomly select a track you have to let it play through the whole song. Sucks when you just wanna scan randomly.

i think if you play from ipod source, theres no point going for the one with the superior DAC. 16-band EQ is overkill.. heck personally i dont use EQ at all.
a car isnt the optimum environment for SQ so id go with the one with better controls... which will be a subjective thing.

ive always had good luck with alpine, and they seem to read scratched CDs better than any other units... so it was much more practical choice for me

I wish I has known before I bought my Pioneer head unit, that is an annoying feature.

Couldn't agree more, I would return it if I could. Im surprised more people don't complain about it.
