Default Cell phone advice.

I subscribe to Verizon for my cell phone sevice. Verizon is the only company to use in my area as they have the most complete coverage. I currently have the Family Plan with shared minutes for myself, my wife and my son. I have 400 minutes. I need to upgrade my plan to 800 minutes and I also want to incorporate the new "In Network" calling plan.

My wife and my son both carry old Motorola StarTac phones. At the time of the upgrade I am entitled to two new phones at a discount. My choices are the Motorola V265 or the LG VX6100. Both have the features that my son and my wife want. My question is, for anyone with experience with either phone, how do you like them? Would you buy it again? Would you recommend it?

My wife wants a small, clamshell phone that is reliable and is clear, and will receive the signal in all areas. My son wants a small clamshell phone that is clear and has game playing capability and will receive the signal in all areas.

I currently have a Motorola T720. While it is a pretty good phone with the features that I want, I'm not sure it is as clear and the volume is as good as I thought it would be.

Thanks for any feedback.

I think this would get more replies in off-topic.

Simon

That phone looks good, but I don't think it is available on the Verizon network.

As nice as your Samsung is, your screen WILL die in about a year. Its a huge problem with samsung phones, and a lot of companies are thinking about dropping them. Motorola makes the best quality phones. Ive never had a problem with any of them. Nokia isnt bad as well.

You are very correct, my previous samsun sch 530, lasted just about a year, but then again, I am one of those people that has to have a new cool phone every year, plus verizon gives you like $50 off if you have been with the company for one year, and $100 off towards a new phone if you have been with them for two years. I dont mind. But now that you bring it up, my old samsung's screen started not lighting up when I opened the phone at or about the one year mark.

hey check out www.howardforums.com and look at some of the verizonwireless reviews. v710 is the phone I was in love with, but vw crippled most of the bluetooth features and it was temporarily put on "no sell". Don't know much about if it's for sale now since I lost interest in the phone.

With your 2 choices, the 6100 is the better choice as the Moto line hasn't been that great since the v60. I'm surprised that you like the 720 as it may have been one of the biggest failures from Moto. Lots of people had problems with the phone, but maybe you got one of the less buggy ones. The 6100 is the new version of the 6000 series from LG.

Have you looked at the LG vx7000? That is probably the phone that most people prefer at the moment. If you can hold out, the vx8000 is the next phone that people are waiting for which should be released jan/feb. My personal pick if you can find one is the audiovox 9900. It's cheap, has the most amazing screen on VW, one of the better cams, does video, and good reception. The only neg is that it's a little big and hard to find.

Take a look at howardforums for some research or shoot me a pm if you have questions. I'm a cell phone nut and like to keep up to date
